Wood or wood briquettes ?
Both fuels in gasification boilers with manual loading are economically advantageous and, with a modern boiler, very environmentally friendly.
WOOD IN PIECES
The most common and most accurate unit used for the amount of firewood sold is:
- square meter, abbreviated as prmr
- square meter, loose, abbreviated as prms
The most suitable and most affordable wood for heating on the market is hardwood - beech, oak.
Fresh wood loses up to 40% of its weight during storage before it is suitable for heating.
| weight of the wood | prmr | prms | caloric value |
| fresh wood - humidity 55-60% | 720 - 750 kg | 500 - 550 kg | 8 - 9 MJ/kg |
| dry wood - humidity 15-20% | 430 - 450 kg | 300 - 330 kg | 15 - 16 MJ/kg |
In fuel stores, generally only fresh wood, which was recently a growing tree, is available.
The price of 1 cubic meter of unsplit wood with a length of 1 m is approximately 35 - 40 euros.
The price of 1 cubic meter of split wood with a length of 33-50 cm is approximately 65 - 70 euros.
After taking into account the above factors, the price of 1 kg of wood usable for heating is 0.15 euros.
Advantages of wood:
- lowest price of all types of fuel
- storable outdoors outside the interior
Disadvantages of wood:
- need to store fresh wood for 2 years before it can be used for heating
- laborious operation
WOOD BRIQUETTES
Wood briquettes are compressed sawdust, shavings or wood chips into the shape of cylinders or bricks and are most often sold in 10 kg packages in honeycomb foil.
The price of 1 kg of wood briquettes, depending on the type of briquettes, is 0.14-0.20 Eur/kg.
The calorific value of wood briquettes is 17-18 MJ/kg
Advantages of wood briquettes:
- cleanliness and ease of handling
- sold in a dry state suitable for immediate heating
- longer burning time compared to wood by about 1/3
Disadvantages of wood briquettes:
- must not get wet during storage - become soggy, get wet
- several types of cheaper briquettes increase their volume during burning, which can negatively affect the burning process - a vault will be created in the combustion chamber, etc., recommendation - do not fill the loading space with such briquettes.
Common advantage of lump wood and wood briquettes:
- they are ecological and renewable energy sources
- in modern boilers they burn in a low-emission mode and in such cases such boilers are included in support and subsidy programs for households when purchasing or and procurement of the entire heating system
- of all types of fuels, they are the most economically advantageous fuel
PYROGAS gasification boilers are certified for both lump wood and wood briquettes, are in class 5 according to EN 303-5 and also meet the Ecodesign requirements for subsidy programs.
